STEP 1: INDIA ENTRY VISA


Carefully Review the Following Information & Gather Together the Required Documents

Eligibility


An Indian Entry Visa can be issued only in the following circumstances:

* The applicant for an Indian visa is of Indian origin;
* The applicant for an Indian visa is a spouse or a child of a person of Indian origin;
* The applicant for an Indian visa is a dependent family member of a holder of an Employment, Business, Research or Student visa.

The primary Indian visa applicants visa must be issued before the dependent family members can apply for their Indian Entry visas.

An Indian Entry visa will not be issued to a dependent family member of a holder of an Indian Employment, Business, Research or Student visa if they have been or currently are nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka or a U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin.

 

Passport


Your actual, currently valid & signed passport must be submitted with your India Entry Visa Application.
The passport needs to have a minimum two blank side by side visa pages and must not be expiring 6 months or less from the date you return into the United States.

U.S citizens should note that the last six pages of your U.S. Passport cannot be used for entry/exit stamps or visa issuance. These are amendment pages specifically designated for US State Department use only.

If your passport does not meet current India Entry visa requirements, UVC can process your Indian Entry Visa Application and your application to Renew Your US Passport, to add Additional Passport Pages, or to Get a New US Passport back to back and in time for your trip.

 

Photo


Two passport photographs will be needed for your Indian Entry Visa Application submission.
The photo's should be:

  • in color & not blurry;
  • 2×2 in size;
  • front view with body completely facing forward;
  • on a plain white background;
  • with no glasses or head wear;
  • not older than 90 days;
  • taken at a reputable facility such as Walgreen’s, CVS or Fed Ex.

ID


A clear color copy of your current and valid drivers license or state ID will be needed as proof of your residential address for your India entry visa application. This is to establish which consular jurisdiction you reside in.

If necessary, the Embassy of India & Indian Consulates will also accept a clear color copy of either a major utility bill (electric/gas/water/sewage) or a current valid lease containing both landlord and tenant signatures.

Important Note: The address on the whichever proof of residence you provide cannot be a P.O. Box and must match exactly what you input as "present address" on the India business visa application form. In addition, the "Present Address" will be used as the return shipping address by the Embassy of India or Indian Consulate.

 

Proof of Relationship


Documents establishing the relationship with the spouse or parent will be needed for the Indian entry visa application submission. This should be an original marriage certificate for a spouse or an original birth certificate for a child. which should a copy of the marriage license is required for spouses.

Documents establishing the Indian status of the spouse or parent is also required. This should be a copy of the spouse/parent current or former Indian passport or a copy of his/her employment/student/research visa.

 

Minors


For minors under 18 applying for an Indian Tourist Visa, please provide a clear color copy of a Birth Certificate and main information pages of both parents passports.

Those U.S. citizens who were born in India can send a clear color copy of their birth certificate, old Indian passport or school leaving certificate.

 

Applicants of Indian Origin & Dependent Family members

All applicants of Indian origin are required to surrender Indian citizenship.
Applicants of Indian Origin who have renounced their Indian citizenship must provide a copy of a renunciation certificate AND naturalization certificate.
Applicants of Indian Origin who have NOT renounced their Indian citizenship or cannot provide proof of renunciation must first apply for renunciation directly through CKGS: http://www.in.ckgs.us/renunciation.shtml.
CKGS does not accept renunciation applications from third parties including travel agencies & visa services.

 

Processing Times

Processing Times for US Citizens and Legal Residents in the United States, average current processing times are 6-10 business days. Rush Service is currently unavailable.

Applicants without permanent residence status or have had it for less than two years normally have their applications referred back to India and can experience extended visa processing times (3 weeks or more).

Applicants of Indian Origin who require a reference and all Non US Citizens have a minimum processing time of 3 weeks and some cases may take longer.

 

More Important Instructions & Helpful Information


The validity of an Indian Entry Visa will be issued for the same duration as was granted to the principal visa holder. Validity begins on the date the visa is issued and not the date of entry into India.


Travelers who remain in India beyond the validity of their visa could face possible detention and significant penalties. If your intended length of stay in India exceeds the validity of your existing visa, you must apply for an extension of validity from the FRRO prior to your visas expiration date.

Applicants of Sri Lankan Origin nationals and nationals of Sri Lanka must complete and sign two copies of the Additional Information Form for Sri Lankan Nationals.


Applicants of Bangladeshi Origin and nationals of Bangladesh must complete and sign two copies of the Additional Information Form for Bangladeshi Nationals.

Fill out completely, then print & sign two copies of the Indian Governments Online India Entry Visa Application Form.
The application should be printed on two separate sheets of paper and not double sided on a single sheet. This should be send to UVC along with all supporting documents.

 

For minors signing the application form should sign their name inside the signature box under the photo on first page of the application.
For Minors too young to sign their name, the child's thumbprint must be stamped inside the signature box under the photo on first page of the application.
Both of the child's parents must sign the second page of the application, and both parents' signatures must be notarized. Applications without both parents' notarized signatures will not be accepted. The minor child should not sign the second page.
