STEP 1: INDIA TOURIST VISA

Carefully Review the Following Information & Gather Together the Required Documents

e-Visa Alternative

The paperless electronic Indian Tourist e-Visa (e-Tourist Visa) is now offered as a quicker and lower cost alternative to the Traditional Stamped India Tourist Visa. Citizens of the United States as well as 160 other nationalities are eligible to apply for the Indian e-Visa and UVC can obtain either type on your behalf.

Indian Tourist e-Visas are normally double entry, good for 120 days from the date of issue, and valid for a stay of up to 60 days. Processing time is typically from 1-4 business days. As the traditional stamped visa option takes an average of 5-10 business days it is a great alternative if you are running close to your departure date.

Passport

Your actual, currently valid & signed passport must be submitted with your India Visa Application.
The passport needs to have a minimum two blank side by side visa pages and must not be expiring 6 months or less from the date you return into the United States.

U.S citizens should note that the last six pages of your U.S. Passport cannot be used by the Indian Government, Embassy of India or Indian Consulates for entry/exit stamps or tourist visa issuance. These are amendment pages specifically designated for US State Department use only.

If your passport does not meet current India tourist visa requirements, UVC can process your Indian Tourist Visa Application and your application to Renew Your US Passport, to add Additional Passport Pages, or to Get a New US Passport back to back and in time for your trip.

Photo

Two passport photographs must be submitted with your India Visa Application.
The photo's should be:

  • in color & not blurry;
  • 2×2 in size;
  • front view with body completely facing forward;
  • on a plain white background;
  • with no glasses or head wear;
  • not older than 90 days;
  • taken at a reputable facility such as Walgreen’s, CVS or Fed Ex.

Copy of ID

A clear color copy of your current and valid drivers license or state ID will be needed as proof of your residential address for your India Tourist Visa Application. This is to establish which consular jurisdiction you reside in.

If necessary, the Embassy of India & Indian Consulates will also accept a clear color copy of either a major utility bill (electric/gas/water/sewage) or a current valid lease containing both landlord and tenant signatures.

Important Note: The address on the whichever proof of residence you provide cannot be a P.O. Box and must match exactly what you input as "present address" on the India tourist visa application form. In addition, the "Present Address" will be used as the return shipping address by the Embassy of India or Indian Consulate.

Minors

For minors under 18 applying for an Indian Tourist Visa, please provide a clear color copy of a Birth Certificate and the main information pages of both parents passports.

Minors 5 years of age or older should sign the signature box on page one only of the application. For minors younger than 5 years old, a right thumb print is required. Both parents should sign the second page and have the application notarized.

The India Extra Particulars Form and the Parental Authorization Form must be signed by both parents and notarized.

Processing Times

Processing Times for US Citizens and Legal Residents in the United States, average current processing times are 6-10 business days. Rush Service is currently unavailable.

Applicants without permanent residence status or have had it for less than two years normally have their applications referred back to India and can experience extended visa processing times (3 weeks or more).

More Important Instructions & Helpful Information

Effective August 2017: The new return shipping policy of the Indian Consulate General requires all passports to be returned directly by the Indian government to the applicant. Visa Expediting Services, including UVC, are unfortunately no longer able to pick up and return ship your passport on your behalf.
Once your visa has been issued and shipped, you will receive a confirmation email from "noreply.usa@ckgs.com " The Embassy of India & Indian Consulates will only return your documents to the address on your ID copy and "Present Address" on your visa application form (these must match exactly).
Due to these changes in policy we recommend applying for Indian e-tourist visas whenever possible.

The validity of most Indian Tourist Visas for U.S. citizens is normally 10 years with multiple entries. However, as visa validity is decided on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Indian Consulate General, some applicants may receive Indian Tourist Visas with a validity of less than 10 year visa. U.S. passport holders are required by the Indian Government to apply for the 10 year validity multiple entry tourist visa. Embassy requirements, consular fees & processing times are subject to change without prior notice.

Travelers must leave India on or before the expiration of their visa. Remaining in India beyond the validity of your visa could result in significant penalties & detention as well as jeopardize future attempts to acquire Indian Tourist Visas. If your intended length of stay in India exceeds the validity of your existing visa, you must apply for a new visa.

Applicants of Indian Origin are required to surrender their Indian citizenship. Those who have already renounced Indian citizenship must provide a copy of both their renunciation certificate & naturalization certificate. Persons of Indian origin who have not renounced Indian citizenship or cannot provide evidence of renunciation must apply for renunciation and/or Visa directly through CKGS.
UVC cannot assist with the Indian citizenship renunciation process.
All applicants of Indian Origin traveling to India for tourism on U.S. passports are required by the Indian Government to apply for a 10 year validity multiple entry India tourist visa only.

Applicants of Pakistani Origin or that have held a Pakistani passport must make a personal appearance to apply for an Indian visa at the Indian Embassy / Consulate. UVC is unable to assist in the visa process for any applicants that are Pakistan nationals or of Pakistani origin.

Applicants of Sri Lankan Origin nationals and nationals of Sri Lanka must complete and sign two copies of the Additional Information Form for Sri Lankan Nationals.

Applicants of Bangladeshi Origin and nationals of Bangladesh must complete and sign two copies of the Additional Information Form for Bangladeshi Nationals.

India Fun Facts

Do you know what the colors and emblem on the Indian National Flag symbolize?

The Indian flag has three horizontal bands of color; saffron for courage & sacrifice, white for truth & peace, and green for faith, fertility, & chivalry. An emblem of a wheel spinning used to be in the center of the white band, but when India gained independence, a Buddhist dharma chakra, or wheel of life, replaced the spinning wheel.
