Russia Fun Facts

Though the United States & Russia are on opposite side of the planets, did you know we are technically less then 5 miles apart and that you can actually walk from one to the other?

The narrowest distance between mainland Russia and mainland Alaska is approximately 55 miles. However, in the body of water between Alaska and Russia, known as the Bering Strait, there lies two small islands known as Big Diomede and Little Diomede. Big Diomede is owned by Russia while Little Diomede is owned by the Unites States. The stretch of water between these two islands is only about 2.5 miles wide and actually freezes over during the winter so you can actually walk from one island to the other, thus walking from the U.S. to Russia, on this seasonally frozen sea of ice.
