The Indian Government began issuing online visas in 2014. Travelers from over 160 countries including the United States, Canada and Mexico can now apply for e-Tourist, e-Business and e-Medical visas to India. UVC can obtain an Indian e-Visa on you behalf. Simply print your visa approval letter and present it with your passport when boarding your flight and to the India Immigration Officials upon entry. 


e-Tourist Visa – The Indian Tourist e-Visa is valid only for tourism travel (vacation, holiday, recreation and visiting with family/friends). It can be issued with a validity of 30 days, 1 year or 5 years.

e-Business Visa – The Indian Business e-Visa is valid only for business travel (meetings, expositions, trade shows, negotiations and exploratory business visits). It is normally issued for multiple entries with a one year validity and a max stay of up to 90 days.

e-Medical Visa – The Indian Medical e-Visa has a validity of 60 days from the date of issue and is good for 3 entries.

e-Conference Visa – The Indian Conference e Visa has a validity of 30 days from the date of issue and good for a single entry only. An e-Conference Visa to India can only be applied for if you are attending a Government Sponsored Conference.

Regular processing time is 5 – 6 business days (Monday – Friday) and Rush processing time is 2-3 days (including weekends).

What is the India e-Visa?

The India e-Visa is an official digital document which provides authorization to travel to and from India and is electronically linked to your passport. Once received via email, you will print out your visa confirmation letter and present it with your passport when boarding your flight and to the Indian Immigration Officials upon entry into India.

What nationalities are eligible for India e-Visas?

When you begin the online application on this page above, the first question will contain a drop down menu listing all countries that are eligible to apply for an Online Visa to India. If your nationality is not on the list, this likely means you are not eligible for the e-Visa but must instead apply for a traditional stamped visa.

What is required to apply for an India Visa Online?

The following are requirements for submitting an India e-Visa application:

  • A clear color scan or photo of your passport main page and adjoined signature page.
  • A clear color photo of the applicant from the chest up, face forward and a white background.
  • A credit/debit card for payment.
  • An email address for confirmation.
  • Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond the date of your intended exit from India.
  • Your passport must have a least one completely blank visa page for entry and exit stamps.
  • For e-business visas, a clear color scan or photo of a business card.
Can I enter India with my e Visa at any point of entry?

No. The e-Visa to India is only valid for travelers arriving at 28 international airports and 5 Seaports.

The airports are:
Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Madurai, Nagpur, Pune, Portblair, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Vishakhapatnam and Varanasi.

The seaports are:
Chennai, Cochin, Goa, Mangalore, and Mumbai.

If arriving from any other port of entry, you must apply for a traditional stamped Indian visa.

Do I need a printed copy of my India e Visa?

Yes, you will need a printed copy of the visa approval letter you receive from UVC to present when boarding your flight and to Indian Immigration Officials upon entry into India. It is also recommended you keep a soft copy for backup in your email.

How many times can I apply for an Online Visa to India?

You are allowed to apply for 2 Indian e-Visas per calendar year (Jan – Dec).

How can I get updated regarding my applications status?

You will receive a confirmation email right after you apply and pay the fee. Ensure to check your spam folder if you did not receive the confirmation. You can call 877-VISADOC (847-2362) if no confirmation is received.
Once your visa is approved, UVC will notify you via email with the visa approval letter attached. The visa approval letter should be printed out and presented when boarding your flight and upon arrival into India.

Can I extend my stay beyond the limit while in India?

No, the duration of stay of an Indian e-Visa cannot be extended in India.

How long is an Indian e-Visa valid for?
  • The e-Tourist Visa to India is issued with a validity of 30 days, 1 year or 5 years.
  • The e-Business Visa to India is normally issued for multiple entries with a one year validity and a max stay of up to 90 days.

What are the vaccination requirements to travel to India?

Yellow Fever vaccine is required only if traveling from a country with an outbreak or a high risk of yellow fever transmission.

Is a transit visa necessary if I have a layover in India?

If you will not be leaving the international transit area or going through customs at the airport in India, then you will not need to get a visa

Do I need a Tourist eVisa if I am traveling to India on a cruise?

Yes, however, the e-Tourist visa to India can only be used by passengers coming into India through the following seaports:

  • Cochin
  • Goa
  • New Mangalore
  • Mumbai
  • Chennai
Do I need to get separate India e Visas for my minor children?

Yes, every passenger must have their own individual e-Visa regardless of their age.

Can Diplomatic/Official Passport Holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders apply for an eVisa?

The e Visa to India is not available for Diplomatic/Official Passport Holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders. This also includes applicants holding emergency or limited passports.
