STEP 1: INDIA E-VISA

Overview


Sending physical documents is not required when applying for the Indian e-visa. All required documents are sent electronically through email or upload.

Validity of the Indian e-Visa for US citizens is for 60 days from the date of initial entry into India. Applicants traveling for tourism or business purposes will be issued a double entry visa while those traveling for medical reasons are allowed 3 entries. A maximum of three India e-Visas may be issued to an individual within one calendar year.

Processing time for Indian e-Visas is normally from 24-48 hours. The e Visa will be processed electronically and you will recieve issuance confirmation via email.

 

Eligibility


Indian e-Visas are applicable for the following travel purposes:

tourism, recreation, sight seeing, casual visit to visit friends & relatives, attending a short term yoga program, medical treatment & attendant, business, conferences, seminar, and workshops that have been organized by a Ministry or Department of the Indian Government.

Passport


A Clear Color Scan of Your Currently Valid & Signed Passport must be submitted with your India E-Visa Application.
Your passport needs to have a minimum two blank side by side visa pages and must not be expiring 6 months or less from the date of your return to the United States.

U.S citizens should note that the last six pages of your U.S. Passport cannot be for entry/exit stamps or visa issuance. These are amendment pages specifically designated for U.S. State Department use only.

If your passport does not meet current Indian E-Visa Requirements, UVC can process your e-Visa application and your application to Renew Your U.S. Passport, to add Additional Passport Pages, or to Get a New U.S. Passport back to back and in time for your trip.

 

Photo


A Clear Color Scan of a Passport Photograph is required for your India E-Visa Application submission.
The photo's should be:

  • in color & not blurry;
  • 2×2 in size;
  • front view with body completely facing forward;
  • on a plain white background;
  • with no glasses or head wear;
  • not older than 90 days;
  • taken at a reputable facility such as Walgreen’s, CVS or Fed Ex.

 

More Important Instructions & Helpful Information


The India e-Visa is valid for entry only through the following 25 designated Airports:

Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Varanasi & Vishakhapatnam)


If a traveler or their spouse, parents, or grandparents were born in Pakistan or ever held Pakistani nationality, they are not eligible for an Indian e-Visa and must apply in person for a traditional stamped India visa.


You will not need a visa for transiting through Indian territory if you will not be leaving leave the airports International transit area or go through customs.


India will require proof of yellow fever vaccination only if you are arriving from a country with high risk of yellow fever.
