Myanmar began issuing e-visas for tourist and business travel in September 2014. Citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, UK, Australia, and most other countries can now apply for their Myanmar visa online electronically from their smartphone, laptop or tablet. No more need to mail in physical documents or visit an Myanmar Embassy/Consulate. You just answer a few questions, pay a fee online, then receive your visa approval letter via email. Simply print your visa approval letter and present it with your passport when boarding your flight and to the Myanmarese Immigration Officials upon entry. Yes, its really that easy!


The Myanmar e-Visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue and allows for a single entry and max stay of up to 28 days for tourism or 70 days for business.

Regular processing time is 3-5 business days (Monday – Friday) and rush processing time is 24-48 hours (including weekends).

Important Note: All foreign nationals must stay in registered hotels, motels, inns, guest houses or resorts.

What nationalities are eligible for Myanmar e-Visas?

When you begin the online application on this page above, the first question will contain a drop down menu listing all countries that are eligible to apply for an Online Visa to Myanmar. If your nationality is not on the list, you are likely either visa exempt or not eligible to apply for the e-Visa.

Nationals of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam do not require a visa for tourist visits of up to 14 days.

Can I enter Myanmar with my e-Visa visa at any point of entry?

No. Currently you may only enter Myanmar through 3 International airports and 5 land border checkpoints.

The 3 International Airports are:

  • Nay Pyi Taw
  • Yangon

The 5 International Land Border Checkpoints:

  • Tachileik
  • Myawaddy
  • Kawthaung

Can I use my e-Visa to enter Myanmar by cruise ship?

No. Those visiting Myanmar via a cruise/boat are not eligible for the Myanmar visa online.

From Myanmar I plan to travel to another country for a short trip and return to Myanmar. Do I need to apply for two Visas within such a short period of time?

Yes, you will need to apply for two separate e-Visas. Each e-Visa is only valid for a single entry.

Do I need a separate Myanmar e Visa for my minor child?

Children under 7 must apply with an adult applicant. There are no additional costs and they will be added to the adults Myanmar Tourist e-Visa. Children 8 years and older traveling to Myanmar must each have their own individual e-Visa.

Is a transit visa necessary if I have a layover in Myanmar?

Individuals who will not be leaving the international transit area of the airport or going through customs in Myanmar will not need to get a visa.

How long does it take to get an Myanmar visa online?

The processing time to get an Myanmar e-Visa depends on which option you choose:

What is required to apply for an Myanmar Visa Online?

The following are requirements for submitting a Myanmar e-Visa application for tourism:

  • A clear color scan or photo of your passport main page and adjoined signature page.
  • A clear color photo of the applicant from the chest up, face forward with a white background.
  • A credit/debit card for payment.
  • An email address for confirmation.
  • Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond the date of your intended exit from Myanmar.
  • Your passport must have a least one completely blank visa page for entry and exit stamps.

The following are additional requirements for submitting an Myanmar e-Visa application for business:

  • A letter of invitation from the company you are visiting in Myanmar.
  • The Company Registration Document (both front & back pages) of the inviting organization in Myanmar.

The single entry tourist e-Visa is valid for 90 days with a maximum stay of up to 28 days.

The single entry business e-Visa is valid for 90 days with a maximum stay of up to 70 days.

Do I need to book my hotel before applying for the Myanmar visa online?

You do not need to have your hotel booked before applying online for the Myanmar e-Visa, however, all foreign nationals must stay in registered hotels, motels, inns, guest houses or resorts.

What are the vaccination requirements to travel to Myanmar?

Anyone traveling to Myanmar should get the most up to date information by visiting the websites of the Center for Disease Contral (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). It is the responsibility of each passenger to check these regulations before traveling to their selected destination.

How can I get updated regarding my applications status?

You will receive a confirmation email right after you apply and pay the fee. Ensure to check your spam folder if you did not receive the confirmation. You can call 877-VISADOC (847-2362) if no confirmation is received.
Once your visa is approved, we will notify you via email with the visa approval letter attached. The visa approval letter should be printed out and presented when boarding your flight and upon arrival into Myanmar.
