Uganda Fun Facts

Did you know that Uganda boasts one of the most diverse collections of wildlife on the planet?

This is largely due to its climate and dense forest cover, but also because Uganda protects its wildlife much more than many of its African neighbors. Uganda is probably best known for its gorillas. They host approximately half of the worlds population of mountain gorillas which stands currently at an estimated 1,000. Uganda has over 1,000 species of birds which totals 86% of Africa’s total and 12% of the worlds total population. It is also home to over 350 species of mammals and about 7% of the world’s butterfly species.
