Brazilian tourist visas are issued to foreigners traveling to Brazil for stays of up to 90 days without the intention to immigrate or engage in paid activity (daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation or other travel expenses are allowed). 

Travelers from visa exempt countries including the United States can enter in Brazil for a stay of up to 90 days and can extend their stay for an additional 90 days while in Brazil. Please keep in mind that even if staying less than 90 days, you must:

  • Stay less than 180 days within a 12-month period;
  • Hold proof of sufficient funds;
  • Hold proof of onward/return airline tickets;
  • Hold all documents required for the next destination;
  • Hold a passport valid at least six months upon exiting Brazil and with one blank visa page.

BRAZIL TOURIST VISA


STEP 1: REQUIREMENTS

Things you will need to get a Brazil visa for tourism.
Gather together the following:

| PASSPORT

Your actual, currently valid & signed passport which must:

  • have a minimum two blank side by side visa pages;
  • not be expiring 6 months or less from the date you leave Brazil.

| PHOTO'S

Two passport photographs which should be:

  • in color & not blurry;
  • 2×2 in size;
  • front view with body completely facing forward;
  • on a plain white background;
  • with no glasses or head wear;
  • not older than 90 days;
  • taken at a reputable facility such as Walgreen’s, CVS or Fed Ex.

| ID

A clear color copy of the front and back of the applicant’s driver’s license or state issued ID.

| ITINERARY

A copy of round trip tickets or emailed flight itinerary confirmation which should include applicants name and show entry into and exit from Brazil.

| RESIDENCY STATUS

A clear, color and notarized copy of the front and back of the applicant’s U.S. permanent resident card (green card) or valid visa.
U.S. visa holders should have original I-94 or I-20 stapled into their passport.

| Minors

The following items are mandatory for all minors:

  • A copy of both parents’ driver license;
  • A copy of the applying minor’s birth certificate.

All applicants under the age of 18 years are considered minors and cannot sign their visa application forms. Both parents must fill out and sign both the Authorization for Minor Visa issuance Form and the Brazil visa application form. The parent signatures on both of these forms must be notarized. Minor visas will not be issued without the consent of both parents except in the following cases:

  • One of the parents is deceased (requires an original or certified death certificate);
  • One of the parent’s is not listed on the birth certificate;
  • One of the parents has a an original or certified copy of a Court Order or Divorce Decree granting not only full custody but exclusive parental rights.

Children 3 months to 6 years old, require a certificate of polio vaccination.

Children of Brazilian citizens can only apply for a visa if they have not yet been issued a Brazilian birth certificate and therefore are not eligible for a Brazilian passport. In that case, the Brazilian parent(s) must attach a notarized Declaration of Non-Citizenship stating that the child was not registered in any Consulate or in Brazil and, therefore, does not hold Brazilian citizenship.

| INVITATION

Applicants whose application mentions “visiting friends or family” must provide an ORIGINAL and NOTARIZED letter of invitation from their host in Brazil.

Scientists, professors, or researchers who are current University faculty, attending cultural, technological, or scientific conferences, seminars or meetings must provide an ORIGINAL and NOTARIZED letter of invitation from their host in Brazil. The invitation letter must clearly state that the applicant services will be unpaid. Services provided must not be paid by organizations/companies in Brazil except for reimbursement of expenses or per diem allowances.

Applicants participating in artistic or amateur sport competitions where no monetary prize or paid admission is involved will require an ORIGINAL and NOTARIZED letter of invitation from their host in Brazil.

Applicants intending to visit with religious organizations, churches, missionaries, or humanitarian organizations in Brazil must provide an ORIGINAL and NOTARIZED invitation from Brazil or business letter from the host church/organization.
The letter should:

  • explain what the group is going to do in Brazil;
  • provide name, address, and contact information of the institution they will be visiting
  • state the kind of volunteer assistance the applicant will provide.

  • Holders of tourist visas are not allowed to engage in any paid activity in Brazil.

Brazil visas for tourism are NOT REQUIRED for citizens of the United States, Australia, Canada and Japan.

The validity and duration of the Brazil visa is at the discretion of the Brazilian Consulate. Long-duration visas for 5-10 years are valid from the day they were issued. Short-duration visas for 30-90 days are valid from the date of first entry into Brazil.

All visa holders may only stay in Brazil for up to 90 days per year regardless of nationality or visa validity date. It is possible to have the visa extended an extra 90 days by the Federal Police Department while in Brazil.

If your Brazilian visa is still valid and your passport expires, you can get a new passport and carry both the new passport (valid) and the old passport (with the visa) when you travel to Brazil.

    Important Notes: 
  • When you access the Online Application you may get a message stating this is an “untrusted connection”. This is due to the security certificate for the application web page being issued by the Brazilian Government and is not recognized by most web browsers in the United States.
  • To convert the application from Portuguese to English, click the British Flag in the top right corner.
  • Where the applications asks for “alternate ID” put your drivers license information.
  • On the final page of the application, it will ask you to upload your documents. If you wish, you may instead upload this image where it asks for a passport photo then submit and print the application. UVC will upload all your actual documents for you.
  • The printed application will be a single page with a signature box and two bar codes. Simply sign inside the signature box.
  • The Brazilian visa application must be submitted within 30 days of completion or it will expire.
